In lighter news, Southwest Airlines has become the butt of jokes after posting that it was looking for a new PR adviser. This comes after a struggling performance by Southwest Airlines over the holidays and the backlash that followed.
Southwest Airlines Gets Piled On Even More After Advertising for a New Public Relations Adviser
The ad popped up on LinkedIn on January 3, 2023, and social media really tore into the airline for not being particularly good at relaying inconveniences to riders who are stuck waiting. During the last two weeks of December 2022, the airline canceled over 15,000 flights, so it’s necessary to fill the position as soon as possible.
On a related note, the airline said that the weather caused the delays and cancelations. It didn’t help that competing airlines continued operating as if it was another day ending in “y”. The feeling is that the airline flubbed the main service so badly that even with an apology, they’re still subject to ridicule.
Also, the posting of the position following their bout of holiday havoc is something of a comical situation. It was no laughing matter for those stranded over the winter holidays but for Southwest to hire for the position and what the previous PR advisor had to tackle has many cracking their jokes.
Once we get to the part that lists the benefits of the position, a user on Facebook said that Southwest Airlines “Couldn’t pay me enough, not even in free rides.” A real gem was “I hear Hell is looking for a PR director too. Probably an easier job.”
While the PR adviser front will be a problem until the airline tightens things up, Southwest has taken steps to calm public backlash by offering over $300 in flights in the form of 25,000 frequent-flyer points. If this will work remains to be seen.
