At Double Or Nothing 2023, Kris Statlander was the second person to challenge Jade Cargill for the TBS Championship. The first was Taya Valkyrie, who pushed Jade to her limits before falling short, doing the work that benefited Statlander in the end.
Tonight, after weeks of letting her anger stew – Valkyrie challenges Statlander for the TBS Championship, and will finally see if Statlander is a worthy champion.
Kris Statlander Is Tested By Taya Valkyrie
Statlander would duck a lariat as this match began, before running Taya down with a shoulder tackle. Some stiff chops in the corner would follow, with Taya tasting the power of Statlander before hitting a palm strike to the jaw.
They’d trade blows in the middle of the ring, with Statlander hitting a low sweep before a leg drop for a one count.
Taya was sent to the floor, and Statlander followed with a moonsault off the apron. Shoving Taya into the ring, Statlander gave up the high ground – and was sent to the floor with a dropkick. Taya would press the advantage in the ring, hitting a lariat in the corner to set up the running knee strike.
Surfboard Stretch would be applied, but Statlander was able to power free. More strikes were exchanged, with kicks connecting at the same time for a double down.
Running knee from Statlander set up the spinning Fisherman Buster, getting a two count. Taya would hit a Wingclipper – but was only able to get the two count.
A spear from Taya would cut Statlander down, but the champion rolled to the corner. Taya would set up the sliding German Suplex, and Statlander was sent onto her shoulders and neck. Statlander was able to come back with a Suplex and Wednesday Night Fever for a well earned title defense.
Eddie Kingston Calls On Tomohiro Ishii For Forbidden Door
Closing out AEW Dynamite last Wednesday, we would see some chaos. Hangman Page & The Young Bucks had taken down Blackpool Combat Club, and a brawl broke out. Eddie Kingston would hit the ring – unsure on who he was there to fight.
The Mad King came eye to eye with his former friend in Jon Moxley – and was unable to decide if Moxley was an enemy or ally. However, he hates Claudio Castagnoli and will unite with The Elite – and has a fifth man for the ten man tag team match set for Forbidden Door.
Kingston would march to the ring, already ready for war at Forbidden Door. The crowd would welcome him to the ring, and Kingston said he’s back fresh from surgery.
Earlier in the show, The Elite left because Kingston said he didn’t respect them, but that’s okay. Kingston would address the anger of Moxley, and that’s fine – because Moxley is united with Castagnoli, and Kingston is a professional Castagnoli hater.
Moxley would come to the ring, and take the microphone. Kingston was reminded that Moxley destroys those infront of them, and that the line was drawn for Forbidden Door.
Moxley was the one who drew the line when he teamed with Castagnoli, and while Moxley might be his brother – he can’t accept that.
Kingston said that the fifth man on team Elite is The Stone Pitbull, Tomohiro Ishii – and he was there to help Kingston against Blackpool Combat Club. It was five on two, and Danielson would call out Okada. If Okada didn’t want to come out – Ishii will have his face stomped in.
Kazuchika Okada & Bryan Danielson Come Face To Face
Okada’s music would hit – and the crowd exploded. The Rainmaker would come to the ring, and locked eyes with Danielson.
This is the main event at Forbidden Door, a dream match for the ages. Yuta would attack Okada from behind – but was unable to hold him in place. The flying knee hit Yuta, and Danielson nearly took The Rainmaker lariat.
Danielson would flee the ring, and Yuta was knocked out by the lariat instead. Now that Danielson got a first hand look at Okada, he realized that this dream match might be a nightmare… for him.
