Per Super Luchas, one of the most historic arenas in Mexico, Lopez Mateo Arena is about to return. The arena was in danger to close permanently during the pandemic. Lopez Mateo Arena has hosted historic stars over 50 years, like Blue Demon Jr., Dr. Wagner Jr., among others.
Here’s the report by Apolo Valdes:
The coronavirus pandemic hit the wrestling world hard, as dozens of promoters and companies stopped performing functions and consequently received income. Now, with the reopening of some businesses, the return of the events of this sport could return soon, so the López Mateos Arena is already preparing for a possible return to activities.
Through the official networks of the arena, the Director-General, Héctor Guzmán, announced that the Tlalnepantla premises are already in the process of cleaning and sanitizing, waiting for the green light to start activities.
“Estamos en proceso de limpieza general alistándonos para cuando las autoridades nos den luz verde para iniciar actividades en la nueva normalidad”.[“We are in the process of general cleaning getting ready for when the authorities give us the green light to start activities in the new normal.”]
The forced closure of the López Mateos Arena forced the cancellation of the Anniversary function that was to be held in May, as well as events where the arena had been rented. So currently the local has had to suffer with the low budget, which has jeopardized the continuity of its operation.
“Todo negocio te va consumiendo, y hay un momento en el cual llegas al límite. Existe un punto en el que ya no puedes reactivar tu negocio y hasta tienes que cambiar de giro, o en el peor de los casos hasta tener que vender.“ [Every business is consuming you, and there is a moment when you reach the limit. There is a point where you can no longer reactivate your business and you even have to change your line, or in the worst case, until you have to sell.]
“Todas esas cosas nos han pasado por la cabeza a la familia, y aunque estamos preocupados, no queremos entrar en la desesperación”. [All those things have gone through the family’s mind, and although we are worried, we don’t want to go into despair.]
The traditional Tlalnepantla venue will wait to be able to perform new functions, although it will still have to wait for the functions to be authorized, which could first be behind closed doors (as some promoters have already done), and later with a controlled influx. However, the authorities have not spoken regarding the return to activity.
