G1 Climax 30 Night 12 saw former four-time Revolution Pro Wrestling (RevPro) Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion face current KOPW (presumably King of Pro Wrestling) titleholder and CHAOS member Toru Yano compete in B Block action.
Zack Sabre Jr came into the match with 4 points and off a loss to rival Los Ingobernables de Japon (LIJ) member Sanada, while Yano came into the match off an 18-second loss to former two-time IWGP Intercontinental Champion and fellow CHAOS member Hirooki Goto.
G1 Climax 30: ZSJ v Yano
In what was a bit of a surprise, Yano decided to attempt and wrestle the prolific catch wrestler Zack Sabre Jr during the early portions of the match. Yano was a touted Greco Roman wrestler as an amateur, which led to Zack Sabre Jr challenging him to outwrestle him.
Yano was able to hit a few suplexes, but soon resulted to his typical tricks and was nearly able to defeat Zack Sabre Jr by ring out after taping him to a steel chair against the guardrail.
Eventually, Zack Sabre Jr would settle into the match and began relying on his submission skills to give Yano trouble. He would gain the submission fall at the 12 minutes and 20 seconds mark with a Figure 4 Heel Hook technique, moving him to 6 points.
Toru Yano stays at 6 points and seems to have lost all his early momentum.
Zack Sabre Jr faces another CHAOS member Yoshi-Hashi (October 11th), two-time former IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion Juice Robinson (October 14th), and former eight-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion Hiroshi Tanahashi (October 17th).
While Yano is unlikely to advance to the G1 Climax 30 Finals at this point, he could remain a problem for IWGP Heavyweight and IWGP Intercontinental ‘Double Champion’ Tetsuya Naito, who he faces on October 14th. If Naito is unable to win that match, Yano could spoil the tournament for him.
