Earlier this week, Major League Wrestling has released the matches for tomorrow’s episode of MLW Fusion. We’re getting an inter-promotional title match as well as a Caribbean Strap match.
It appears to be an interesting show on paper but we’ll have to see if it delivers better than the previous three episodes. Check out the scheduled matches.
MLW Fusion #119
–#1 Contendership for MLW World Tag Team Titles: Violence is Forever vs. TJP & Bu Ku Dao
–AAA World Cruiserweight Title: Laredo Kid [c] vs. Zenshi
–IWA Caribbean Heavyweight Title – Caribbean Strap Match: Savio Vega [c] vs. Richard Holliday
Major League Wrestling keeps with its tidy three bout cards for MLW Fusion but as you know, the company is keen to push its ongoing stories such as what’s going on with Promociones Dorado, Injustice vs. CONTRA, and Hammerstone vs. CONTRA.
Let’s break down these bouts, predict a winner, and see what might come next.
#1 Contendership for MLW World Tag Team Titles: Violence is Forever vs. TJP & Bu Ku Dao
This match is something of an odd one. The Von Erichs lost the titles to Los Parks on last week’s episode of MLW Fusion. Instead of pushing for their rematch, the Von Erichs opted to revisit the Tag Team titles after dealing with Team Filthy.
An eliminator was announced placing Team Filthy’s dangerous duo Violence is Forever in line for a title shot.
On the one hand, it could build to an MLW World Tag Team title showdown if Violence is Forever managed to advance and take the belts from Los Parks and Promociones Dorado.
However, that would mean that the gold would end up in Team Filthy’s hands when the titles could’ve ended up back in the Von Erichs’ hands in the first place.
If the Von Erichs are focused on handling Team Filthy, this would be the perfect match to strike a blow at Lawlor’s camp.
Ross and Marshall are fiery, honest guys but Team Filthy has poked the bear too many times since 2019 and it might be time to get filthy to get Filthy.
Anticipation: Moderate
Predicted Winners: TJP & Bu Ku Dao
While I’ll be rooting for Violence is Forever, I can see the Von Erichs costing them the match. This would lead to TJP and his charge advancing to face Los Parks—and most likely losing.
TJP has experience and skill on his side while his protégé Bu Ku Dao has a lot of potential and is heeding his mentor’s advice. What they don’t have is L.A Park’s degree of experience and Salina de la Renta at ringside.
AAA World Cruiserweight Title: Laredo Kid [c] vs. Zenshi
Here’s the thing: Zenshi doesn’t have the best track record on MLW Fusion at all. He’s extremely talented but he hasn’t been able to secure big wins. The last time he won was in 2019 against El Hijo de L.A Park.
That said, at least Zenshi has won in MLW. In his previous appearances for the company, Laredo Kid has been on the losing end—even in a tag match where he teamed with Zenshi.
Stats aside, MLW owner Court Bauer has been big on promotion interpromotional bouts as a means of expansion into Latin American and Caribbean markets.
It also works to strengthen the company’s ties with major companies in those markets.
Anticipation: Moderate
Predicted Winner: Laredo Kid
Unless the plan is for Laredo Kid to wrestle more often in Major League Wrestling and Zenshi in AAA, I don’t see Zenshi defeating the AAA Cruiserweight champion here.
That said, the match has my attention to a degree.
IWA Caribbean Heavyweight Title – Caribbean Strap Match: Savio Vega [c] vs. Richard Holliday
This bout is one that has been boiling over for a long time. Mind you, this isn’t even IWA Puerto Rico’s main championship but Savio presented it as such in MLW.
A year ago, Richard Holliday stole the belt from Savio and that has been the crux of their long-running feud. With MJF signing with AEW, Gino leaving the faction, and Hammerstone hunting CONTRA the Holliday vs. Savio feud has been a constant.
Things are either hitting a major milestone or a conclusion as the two square off in a Caribbean Strap match on tonight’s MLW Fusion.
Anticipation: High
Predicted Winner: Richard Holliday
I’m looking forward to this mainly because this is my sh**. Brawls? MLW brawls? Hand it here. My expectations might be too high but Holliday’s been growing as a wrestler and a performer in MLW.
Savio’s consistent and the Caribbean Strap Match adds a level of danger because of the veteran’s experience and this being his signature match.
You’d think this one would go to Savio automatically but since MLW and IWA Puerto Rico are working together, we might end up seeing some interference on behalf of Holliday from the Caribbean contingency.
Of course, Holliday could just as likely out fight Savio here. It could go either way but I’m leaning more towards Holliday taking this bout.
