For months now, former ROH World Heavyweight Champion Dalton Castle has been a thorn in the side of Eli Isom. Isom has just been trying to make something of himself in ROH and has been after the TV Championship, but Castle always seems to be there to try and “spice things up”. Tonight, enough is enough and Isom finally gets Castle one on one at one of the biggest ROH events of the year, Death Before Dishonor. I hope that’s enough spice for Castle! Castle has a protege in Dak Draper, who would be on commentary for this one.
Eli Isom Has No Time For Games
These two are top ranked for shots at TV Champion Dragon Lee, meaning this match will likely determine who gets the next shot. Castle went for a single leg takedown only for Isom to shut him down, hit a dropkick and send Castle outside. Isom would fly over the top rope and land on Castle. Castle would hide behind his Baby Chicks and try to run forward, only to be back body dropped onto the ring apron.
In the ring, Isom would hit the ripcord Northern Lights Suplex. Castle would catch Isom on the top rope with a running knee strike, finally doing some damage. A running boot to the face on the outside kept the offense coming, but a one count in the ring says it all. Castle went for a single leg and moved to a double instantly for a suplex. Isom took a sliding knee to the side of the head, but was able to mount a comeback.
Dalton Castle Gets Some Help
A charging forearm strike and knee facebuster would set up a Sidewinder Suplex, getting a two count. Isom would be kicked in the jaw near the ropes, before dodging a lariat from Castle and sending him tumbling. Castle fled as Isom came after him, before hitting the apron spin hurricanrana. Back in the ring, Isom would hit a pop up neckbreaker and got a two count.
Draper would come to ringside and save Castle, before getting kicked low in the ring. Castle tried to take advantage with a Bang-A-Rang, but Isom countered into a roll up. This got a two count, before he hit a back elbow and nailed Bang-A-Rang for the win. This all but makes him undisputed as the next challenger for the ROH World TV Champion.
One of the better matches we’ve seen from Castle in recent years, with him using both great character work and his in-ring skills to overcome Isom. Sure he needed help, but it was still a solid match from start to finish. Match Rating: 2.75/5 (** 3/4)
