At the start of AEW, the Elite were the figureheads of the company alongside Chris Jericho; their matches and appearance on AEW are what put AEW on the map.
It has now been over a year since AEW started. The original Elite being the Young Bucks, Cody Rhodes, Kenny Omega and Hangman Paige. Who is still the focus of AEW for the past year.
The only exception of this would be the TNT championship which did start out with Cody Rhodes but changed to what we see now. This did work out amazingly for the belt with holders like the late, great Brody Lee, Darby Allin, and now, Miro.
However, other championships and main storylines are still very focused on the Elite. Cody Rhodes is still in the limelight. Kenny Omega is also at the top of the card with the Young Bucks. The big build that Hangman Paige will most likely be the person to take the championship from Kenny Omega.
Stopping others from breaking out
Kenny Omega at the top of the card does seem to be the right move at the moment. Cody Rhodes is currently doing his things but will hopefully turn into putting over new talent. Hangman Paige’s story seems to be still at the starting gates.
It’s the Young Bucks that seem to be taking time away from other Tag Teams stories. This looks to start with FTR, where the story seems to be rushed to make the Young Bucks the champions.
Then, their match between SCU was used as a stepping stone for the PPV in more recent memory. There could be some argument that Jon Moxley should also spend some time out of the main event, but that’s an article for another day.
The recent end of era match was overlooked by Moxley and Kingston doing a terrible job of trashing the Elite’s locker room. The same member of the AEW roster seems to be at the top now for a year. Even though SCU is meant to be the first-ever AEW tag team champions. They took a massive backstage seat to the PPV match between Young Bucks Vs. Jon Moxley.
Rushed Promos for the Elite
After the match between SCU, it seems to be rushed like many other promos that don’t involve the Elite. Instead, we get one of the best promos in AEW history on their YouTube channel instead of on the actual show.
We have also seen the disappearance of other roster members like Jurassic Express, Dark Order and others to see the Elite each week. It seems like the Elite has had their time in the light after a year and should start giving others time to grow.
