Again, there was no MLW Fusion last week. Instead, Major League Wrestling ran episode three of MLW Anthology, this time focusing on Low Ki. These shows have been great if you’re looking to see a few old school MLW matches. Even then, it really depends on what wrestler will be showcased.

Case in point, episode two of MLW Anthology was about Ol’ Mancer. While a fan favorite, he’s only been in Major League Wrestling roughly a year now. Anything featuring him had already been shown on MLW Fusion. No, what you really want is the stuff from Major League Wrestling’s run. Matches that aired on MLW Underground in the early 2000s.

This episode of MLW Anthology featured one early match from “The Lone Wolf of Brooklyn”. In addition, there are some promos to fill in the time and advance storylines during COVID-19. Let’s get into the featured matches.

Again, this is a two-match show. When Major League Wrestling does this, it can be a really mixed show. Either the matches are long enough to eat up most of the time or they’re a decent length and the middle of the show will be mostly promos. Take a guess which kind of show we got this episode.

    MLW Anthology: Low Ki

The first bout was an oldie from the 2004 Reloaded Tour between Low Ki and mentor Homicide. I loved this match. For our readers not familiar with the early 2000s indies, Low Ki vs. Homicide was an indy staple. While Homicide has over four years—almost five—experience over Low Ki, these two wrestled in the same places on the same cards when the 2000s started.

It was hard not to see Homicide on the same card with Low Ki and Da Hit Squad. This was Low Ki’s Major League Wrestling debut and while it wasn’t the starting point for American strong style, this is one of those matches that was American strong style in its purest form.

Our second match was from the modern period of Major League Wrestling as Shane Strickland defended his MLW World Heavyweight title against Low Ki. This would be Low Ki’s first challenge for the belt in his MLW career and Strickland’s second defense. Taking place in July 2018 for MLW Fusion #14, it saw a Low Ki, a veteran of the indies and beyond take on the champion, Strickland. Swerve at this time was also a veteran of the indies who didn’t have as many years as Low Ki but was a current in-demand star.

The match was a good clash with Low Ki doing his thing with his hired gun gimmick. Strickland held his own against Low Ki and showed why he was champion but skill mixed with overwhelming experience saw him lose the belt early into his reign. Again, a really good match that showed another period of the Lone Wolf in Major League Wrestling.

    Next Week: Satoshi Kojima

I knew we would eventually get to Satoshi Kojima as he was one of Major League Wrestling’s most dominant champions. Episode four of MLW Anthology should give us an MLW World Title defense from Japan but we’ll have to see.
