In Ring Of Honor right now, we have a brewing faction war. Between La Faccion Ingobernables, Shane Taylor Promotions, MexiSquad, and The Foundation, there are plenty of issues to go around. Tonight the focus is on Shane Taylor Promotions as they take on The Foundation in six man tag team action.
This issue stems from The Foundation not trusting the honorable action of STP, who refused to take the Six Man Championships from MexiSquad after Bandido & Flamita couldn’t make it to Final Battle to defend. The Foundation simply wants STP to prove their honor in the ring, and the match is set.
Things get more interesting when you remember Shane Taylor is #1 contender for the ROH World Championship, and remains #1 contender for the ROH Six Man Tag Championships. We also have the involvement of the ROH Pure & Tag Team Champions on The Foundation side. So while this match is about honor, it’s also going to shock the rankings of many divisions.
The Feeling Out Process Favored Shane Taylor Promotions
Code of Honor was adhered to, and Lethal started with Khan. Lethal wanted to take Khan to school with a single leg takedown, only to be thrown aside with ease. Safe to say Khan aced his first lesson. They’d lock up again, and Khan once again used the power advantage to bring it to the former ROH World Champion.
Lethal was not going to be fully shown up, and got a side headlock takeover. Khan fought free only to end up into another hold, breaking free again and sending Lethal outside with an elbow to the head. The Foundation regrouped, and Tracy Williams tagged in alongside Shane Taylor. Taylor missed the big right hand, and Williams went right for the rear naked choke, before being driven into the corner and hit with a back elbow.
Williams was set up on the top rope, but caught a punch and countered right into an armbar over the ropes. He used the full five count, handspringed to the floor and came back into the ring to grab the arm again. Taylor flung Williams away, and nearly knocked him out with a forearm. Williams regained his bearings, before Moses & Gresham were tagged in.
The Pure Champion was dwarfed in size by Moses, but Gresham is used to being the smaller man. Moses tried to corner Gresham, but quickly learned just how hard that was as Gresham got moving. He’d leap onto Moses with a headlock, and be fought off. Gresham wanted a rollup, got caught in a wheelbarrow hold, only to turn it into a headlock takeover. Moses got a headscissors, Gresham broke free and was flattened with a shoulder tackle.
The Foundation Pick Up The Speed Of Their Wrestling
The Foundation once again regrouped, and discussed their plan. Williams just wanted to fight them, but Gresham & Lethal urged him to stick to Pure Wrestling. Lethal tagged in, and got to work on the arm of Moses with some shoulder breakers. Williams tagged in and was too focused on Lethal to notice, taking a knee to the arm.
Moses kicked out of a pin, only to have to fight off an armbar attempt. Williams pulled Moses to the corner, tagged in Gresham, but Williams got thrown to the outside. While Moses was taking his arm back through the ropes, Gresham got him with a running knee lift, before bouncing off Moses with a high crossbody. Instead, he popped the arm of Moses, tagged in Lethal who nailed two basement dropkicks to the arm.
Moses was just being picked apart, and was desperate for the tag, getting a chance after a Samoan Drop. Khan tagged in alongside Lethal, and hit two big lariats and a back body drop. Lethal was sent to the apron, kicked in the head, and hit with a body press. Wasting zero time, Khan got Lethal back in the ring, and hit a big gutbuster for the near fall.
Shane Taylor Won’t Be Denied
Lethal hit a forearm and tried for Lethal Injection, being swatted out of the sky. Gresham was tagged in, and got Khan with a deadlift German Suplex, before picking him apart with well placed strikes. Khan was hit with a missile dropkick, before tagging Shane Taylor in.
Arguably the biggest and smallest men in ROH would meet, Gresham being nailed with a knee to the head and a package piledriver for a near fall. It broke down into a brawl, STP taking control of the ring with Moses & Khan isolating Williams, who finally got to treat this like a fight. He was sent to the outside, took Khan out, before Moses hit a cannonball senton off the apron, only to be taken out by Lethal moments later.
Lethal got Taylor next, and sent him into the ring to be hit with a Shooting Star Press from Gresham. Gresham got a springboard moonsault onto Taylor, tagging Lethal in at the same time. Lethal went for Lethal Injection, only to be caught in Welcome To The Land for the win. Shane Taylor has pinned another former ROH World Champion, adding Jay Lethal alongside Jay Briscoe & Dalton Castle.
This match didn’t look like much on paper, but it ended up being incredible. The story of The Foundation sticking to their guns against a much more powerful team, Khan & Moses having breakout performances, and Shane Taylor just being awesome makes this a must see six man tag team match. Match Rating: 4.25/5 (**** ¼)
