One of the major strengths of NXT UK is that they are able to put together big shows without entirely relying on championship matches – as shown by tonight. We have a big time main event with Joe Coffey & Jordan Devlin, Moustache Mountain in Tag Team action, and the debut of Charlie Dempsey. Did these matches deliver? Let’s find out.
Moustache Mountain Give Smith & Carter A Chance To Prove Themselves
Action started off hot with Moustache Mountain taking on the duo of Ashton Smith & Oliver Carter. Despite having never had the NXT UK Tag Team Championships, Moustache Mountain are the measuring stick of the division, and in this match – Oliver & Carter showed they measured up. It was a stupidly fun face vs. face tag team war, with both teams showing a great amount of fight. Smith & Carter got close after isolating Tyler Bate, but Bate would survive and help Seven hit the Assisted Snap Dragon Suplex for the win.
Next up on the match card was Xia Brookside & Dani Luna. This one was an exhibition of two of NXT UK’s future champions, one packing speed and legacy – while the other brings power and determination. Luna was able to show she can match the grappling of Brookside, and shut down her speed with the power edge. Despite having about the same level of experience, it was clear when this one ended with a huge powerbomb that Luna was the better woman. There were some bitter feelings after the bell however – as Brookside rejected the handshake.
Charlie Dempsey Impresses – A-Kid Wants To Enrage Dragunov
Formerly known as Bailey Matthews, we’d see the proper debut of Charlie Dempsey tonight. The son of William Regal, he’s big and packs a throwback style reminiscent of the UK greats of the past. However, his opponent Josh Morrel wasn’t going to lay down for Dempsey, and really have a hard fight. He’d try to out wrestle Dempsey, only to be flung around and tied up like a knot for a painful submission win. Huge potential in Dempsey, he truly makes it look and feel real.
We’d see a face to face encounter between the NXT UK Champion and his next challenger. A-Kid is first in line for Dragunov as champion, and openly gave away his gameplan. He’s going to use Dragunovs temper to get him off his game, and submit him. Dragunov thinks this will fail, as he will rain down fury on A-Kid before he even gets the chance. This match is going to be fantastic.
Joe Coffey Steals A Win With The Help Of Gallus
Main event time, and we have Joe Coffey taking on Jordan Devlin in a first time match for NXT UK. This one stems from Gallus taking over the locker room of Devlin – and locking him out. A fair reason to want a fight – and a fight it was. These two are some of the best all around talents WWE has in the UK, and they’d show it here. Coffey hits hard, so Devlin worked on grounding him to take away some striking. This worked – but he got cocky and got dropped with a German Suplex.
Devlin comes back by countering the Black Coffey lariat into a standing Spanish Fly, an incredibly smooth counter. However, Mark Coffey would hop onto the apron and try to distract Devlin & the referee. On the other side of the ring, Wolfgang held onto Joe Coffey as Devlin looked for the finisher – causing him to stumble and take a face full of Black Coffey for the three count.
Will Jordan Devlin seek revenge on Gallus once he watches the tape back to see what went wrong? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
