LeAnn Rimes has recently opened up about her past struggles with stress and anxiety that once led to a stint in rehab. The country singer, 39, admitted to being in a ‘very, very dark place’ while revealing that she ‘had never been alone’ and suffered from ‘deep codependency’ issues.
Rimes, who found fame at the young age of 13, spoke candidly about her mental health during an interview with the Insider. “I was in a very, very dark place. I had never been alone. There was always someone around, whether it be a parent or a manager, an agent or a publicist, or a husband, or whatever it was,” she confessed. “It was just time. It was time for me to break away from my deep codependency and to figure out what was chemically going on to be able to take care of myself.”

She then admitted to voluntarily checking herself into a rehab facility just one day after her 30th birthday in 2012. “Being in the public eye from the time I was very young and having to override my humanness I think was a huge part of my experience with anxiety and depression and what was triggering it,” LeAnn said. She also acknowledged that some of her issues also resurfaced during the Covid-19 lockdown. “I have my whole life, on the road. I’ve never had this much time at home.
Like my nervous system was just like, ‘What are we doing?’ Even though I meditate and do all the things like I’m still, there was still this kind of energy that’s always on. That really kind of is my baseline. So, when that got taken away, the false security of having a job my whole life, like having all the things removed and I was terrified as everyone else, including feeling like you’re going to walk out your door and die,” she explained.
Rimes also recognized that she’s prone to some ‘pretty heavy depression’ but she has since ‘come out of it’. She also promoted the positives of getting help, saying, “I’ve always found that therapy definitely helps with that. It’s not about an end game. It’s like, this is the human journey.” In a past interview, LeAnn briefly touched on how childhood stardom has affected her throughout her adult life.
“I feel like there’s only a handful of people that could understand where I’ve been through as a childhood star, and now actually having a career after that. “It’s hard to explain, and I’m not asking for anyone’s sympathy. I feel like there’s only a handful of people that could understand where I’ve been through as a childhood star, and now actually having a career after that”.
Aside from being a country music artist, LeAnn Rimes is probably best known for her dramatic personal life. While she was married to background dancer Dean Shermet, she was caught engaging in an extramarital affair with Eddie Cibrian, who was also married to future ‘Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ star Brandi Glanville.
Rimes met Cibrian while filming the made-for-TV movie Northern Lights and their affair was outed when tabloids obtained photos of the pair of adulterers kissing and canoodling during a secret date. Rimes and Cibrian would eventually get hitched in 2011, but her acrimonious relationship with Eddie’s ex-wife has been well documented in the press.
