Cleveland Browns QB Deshaun Watson still isn’t out of the woods as there are rumblings that the NFL could extend his suspension amidst sexual misconduct allegations. Retired federal judge Sue L. Robinson found that Watson violated the NFL’s rules of conduct and recommended a six-day ban. However, there is a feeling that the sentence is a little light considering the trouble the situation has caused.
NFL QB Deshaun Watson Could Face a Lengthier Suspension as the League Appeals 6-Game Ban
In speaking with TMZ, former Cleveland Browns GM Michael Lombardi said that the ban could be longer than a mere six games. As a matter of fact, he puts the number of games at twelve—and that’s simply the NFL settling. He feels that the NFL was looking at a year-long suspension for the 26-year-old Deshaun Watson:
“I know the league wants a year. They’ve made that pretty clear to all people that they leak information to. They’re negotiating off a year—we know the Players Association wants six games. Do they settle on 12? I don’t know. I think a lot of this comes down to the simple fact, who’s going to win in federal court?”
The NFL’s appeal will be heard by Peter C. Harvey, a former NJ attorney general and Lombardi believes that the League could win. Deshaun Watson’s sexual misconduct troubles stem from several massage therapists claiming that he accosted them to perform different sexual acts during his time in Houston with the Texans between 2017 and 2021.
