One of the biggest names in professional wrestling during the 90’s was WCW star Goldberg. His rapid rise through the ranks of WCW captured the imaginations of fans like few other wrestlers, and a set of runs with WWE proved that connection with fans never faded.
However, his contract with WWE ended – without Goldberg getting that big promised retirement match. Now, Goldberg is taking matters into his own hands with a planned retirement tour – and one of AEW’s rising stars, Wardlow, hopes to be one of the opponents.
Wardlow Hopes To Turn Chance Encounter With Goldberg Into A Dream Match
During a recent interview with Simon Miller for WhatCulture Wrestling – Wardlow would speak on a recent encounter with Goldberg at WrestleMania 39. Goldberg was aware of Wardlow being around, and told him he was next – prompting Wardlow to reply with “Bet your ass, I’m not next!”.
Now, Wardlow is hoping to turn this into a match – with Goldberg perhaps being his biggest dream match. Wardlow had the following to say about a potential match with Goldberg.
“I think Wardlow versus Goldberg, it doesn’t get bigger than that. It does not get bigger than Wardlow versus Goldberg. It doesn’t.”
With All Elite Wrestling set to run their biggest show to date with All In from Wembley Stadium, and with Goldberg as a free agent – it seems likely Tony Khan will have an interest in getting Goldberg on hand for that event.
He knows that he must pull out as many big matches as possible to fill the arena, and an exhibition match between Wardlow & Goldberg would be a perfect fit for a card of this scale. Khan has stated that Goldberg being involved with All In was “interesting”.
When it comes to members of the AEW roster who would be suited to face Goldberg, Wardlow is a good fit. They’re both known for quick matches and a powerhouse style – and Wardlow could benefit from sharing the ring with a certified legend like Goldberg.
