Ever since coming back from the COVID-19 related shutdown, Ring Of Honor has been firing on all cylinders. They have a focused vision, and have been pulling off great weekly TV. However, PPV is where it all comes together. Final Battle 2020 was a solid show, and now we’re at 19th Anniversary. The headliner match is Jay Lethal vs. RUSH for the ROH World Championship, but that’s just one of many matches on tonight’s card. Let’s break down the major matches!
Jay Lethal Looks To Become A Three Time ROH World Champion
The main event of the night is a clash between ROH World Champion RUSH, and Jay Lethal. These two have never met in a singles match, but both hold the honor of being two time Ring Of Honor Champions. Lethal at one point held that belt for 427 Days, a reign that RUSH is closing in on.
He earned this chance by beating Matt Taven, EC3 & Jay Briscoe in a Four Corners Survival Match on ROH TV. This one continues the feud between La Faccion Ingornable & The Foundation, which is just heating up.
Tracy Williams Looks To Go From No Gold To Double Champion
While Lethal goes for the ROH World Championship, Tracy Williams has arguably more lofty goals. He currently holds no gold in ROH, but has two chances to get some tonight. First up he challenges Kenny King for the ROH TV Championship, a belt which was held by Dragon Lee but made vacant as he took time off for a minor surgery. King & Lee are both members of LFI, making things easy.
Also tonight, Williams teams with Rhett Titus to take on Kenny King and La Bestia Del Ring. Again, Dragon Lee was supposed to be in this match, but surgery forced the switch. If everything works out, Tracy Williams could help take two titles from LFI into The Foundation.
Jonathan Gresham Looks To Slay Dak Draper
Jonathan Gresham is the only man in action tonight from The Foundation who isn’t mixing it up with L.F.I. Instead, he has the biggest man in the Pure division staring down at him, ready to take his championship away.
This will be the third defense of the belt, with Gresham having beaten Flip Gordon & Joe Keys in defenses. Dak Draper is easily his biggest test, at least in terms of size. He’s 6’5” of pure wrestling talent, and will show that here tonight.
EC3 & Jay Briscoe Finally Clash
Since October, Jay Briscoe & EC3 have been itching to fight it out. It was supposed to happen at Final Battle, but plans changed and EC3 couldn’t make it. Tonight, this match finally happens. EC3 has been preaching about controlling his own narrative, but no one controls their narrative more than The Briscoes, who have been marching to the beat of their own drum since 2002 in ROH. Jay Briscoe is the ace of ROH, a two time world champion. If EC3 wants respect, he will have to fight like hell and earn it tonight.
Matt Taven & Vincent Fight Without Honor
Finally, we come to what could be the weirdest match of the night. Matt Taven & Vincent are longtime friends, and former members of The Kingdom together, but things went south a few years back. At Final Battle 2019, Vincent put Taven on the shelf by trying to break his leg. Taven was able to come back, and beat the hell out of Vincent. ROH won’t sanction this one, meaning the rules are out the door. It’s a fight without honor.
Also announced for tonight are Shane Taylor Promotions vs. Mexisquad, Mark Briscoe vs. Flip Gordon, Dalton Castle vs. Josh Woods, and a Four Way Survival Match between Brian Johnson, Danhausen, Eli Isom, and LSG.
