After trashing the Firm and the Royal family on many occasions, after deliberately emphasizing her American heritage, Meghan Markle tries to portray herself as British and starts off her podcast with a fake British accent. Accent that she didn’t acquire during her short life in the palace.
The Duchess of Sussex hosted an episode of Archetypes, having the Hulk actress Jameela Jamil as a guest. In the opening minute of the podcast episode, Meghan Markle welcomed and greeted Jameela by putting on her British accent.
Meghan Markle Starts Off An Episode Of Archetypes Podcast With Fake British Accent – Receives Praise From Guests For What She Does
Jameela Jamil is a British actress and influencer, frequently finding herself in online activism games, standing for and defending women and addressing women’s issues like body image.
She greeted back Meghan Markle in her native accent. “You all right babe? ‘ello!” “ello” – Meghan Markle replied using a Mockney accent.
People took notice of Meghan Markle’s change of accent almost immediately. Tweets about this started piling on and people criticize her for even trying to portray herself as British.
“British accent again? Oh my God. She doesn’t know when to stop, does she?” – one Tweet reads.
“Using British accent to make fun of it, or what? Can this woman show respect only once?” – another one adds.
However, her guest, Jameela Jamil seemed to not bother about Meghan Markle’s fabricated accent. She dug into the interview and started speaking about female activism almost instantly. Furthermore, she praised Meghan Markle by complimenting her for being ‘a sobering voice’ and for offering ‘unspeakable support’ to women all over the world.
“It’s just it’s an unfathomable amount of s*** that you take Meghan. I can’t believe it. And I fought back on your behalf of years before I’d ever met you because I was so outraged by the twisting of this, very normal, very kind, very civilized woman. That demonization just shows how afraid they are of you.” – Jameela Jamil told Meghan Markle at one point in the episode.
Aside from Jameela Jamil, Meghan Markle had one more guest for her new episode. The American-Iranian acting star, Shohreh Aghdashloo. The topic of the episode is the ‘audacity of the activists’.
Meghan Markle kept on bragging about her not lowering her voice on women’s rights even after joining the royal family. She explained that this is the reason she so much desired to have a podcast where she would feature strong women – not afraid to express their support for the female community.
Meghan Markle and Shohreh Aghdashloo brought up the topic of ‘bringing back democracy to Iran’, Aghdashloo’s country of birth. They spoke about the suppression of women there and about the strict hijab rules. The murder of the 22-year-old woman by the police forces was brought to topic as well.
“It reminded me of a message that was shared with me just a few days before my wedding by a very, very influential and inspiring woman who for her own privacy, I won’t share who it was with you. But she said to me, ‘I know that your life is changing but please don’t give up your activism, don’t give up because it means so much to women and girls’.” – Meghan Markle told Shoshreh. “And I kept doing the work for women and girls because it matters, yes, but also because she encouraged me to do so.”
They debated why they consider women’s activism to be risky and audacious. They agreed that ideas coming from women are often used against them to belittle them.
The complaining by Meghan Markle continued during the whole 1-hour episode. And it didn’t go unnoticed. People tweeted about the episode, some straightforwardly criticizing the Duchess, but some also praising her for the work she does.
“For the past three years she’s had a global platform, yet all she does with it is complaining that she’s been censored, silenced, shut out. Meghan Markle has been a public downer longer than she was a working duchess” – one Twitter user wrote.
“Meghan privately reaches out to women in their most desperate moments. We saw that with Osaka. And Jameela reiterated that!” – another one praised her for her actions.
“Meghan Markle apparently doesn’t know the difference between stereotypes and archetypes, but I guarantee you she knows exactly what a bitch is…” – another one added.
Nevertheless, Meghan Markle eventually received praise from her guests for her actions as well. They told her how they adored her work and what she did until now, and padded her on the back to continue her tireless work.
“I’m so sorry you’ve had to withstand this demonization. I feel faith that tides are changing because so many of us are fighting back.” – Jameela Jamil told Meghan Markle.
“Well thank you for fighting back.” – Meghan Markle replied. Jameela Jamil opened up and revealed a side of her that we didn’t know before. She told the Duchess of Sussex that there was a period when she had suicidal thoughts. She received massive backlash over her words of action and this condition forced itself on her. Praise headed Megan’s way for contacting her in this difficult time and for reaching out to other high-profile women when they were in need of support.
“I also just want to thank you, in a way that you know I probably didn’t get to at the time. But during some of my hardest moments where I’m the most malign and harmful by the media, and also by the public.” – Jameela Jamil told Meghan Markle. “You have been such a sobering voice of unwavering support to me. And people don’t know that you frequently reach out to women who are having a very very hard time. You reach out to us, and you don’t do it publicly. You don’t come to get any glory. But you privately reach out to us in our most lonely and desperate moments. And we need more of that in the world.”
