Tonight is the first real test of MJF as AEW World Champion, as he enters a sixty minute Ironman Match. It’s well known that his opponent Bryan Danielson is perhaps the best wrestler in the world – and many think that MJF simply can’t hang with him for an hour. This is a match that is perfectly suited to Danielson, a man who can end a match with hundreds of possible submissions – while MJF can only win by using the Dynamite Diamond Ring or the Salt Of The Earth Armbar. However, MJF has a chip on his shoulder – and knows Danielson will put him through hell tonight, but is that such a bad fate for a man who calls himself the devil?

Sixty Minutes On The Clock For Tonight’s Main Event

On the opening lock up, MJF would be able to send Danielson off with an arm drag – before being taken down to the mat and being put in the Muta Lock. Commentary would mention that MJF’s longest match was just over 38 minutes, while Danielson once wrestled for 74 minutes in a single match. Danielson would try a variety of holds, before doing some jumping jacks as MJF escaped.

MJF would be sent to the mat with a shoulder tackle, before hitting a scoop slam – but missing an elbow drop. They’d go move for move, MJF proving that he can hang with Danielson in the ring, before he left the ring to avoid a roundhouse kick. MJF would take a walk through the crowd, trying to lure Danielson to the floor and burn out the clock a bit.

Danielson would apply a Full Nelson in the middle of the ring, before hopping onto the back of MJF in the process. MJF would break free, before sending up in the Romero Special. Danielson would stomp the knees of MJF into the mat, before kicking him into the corner. MJF would hit the Back Body Drop, before being caught with a small package for the two count.

MJF was able to grab a bottle of water from ringside, getting a quick drink – baffling Taz, who never had water during a match, but also never wrestled a match this long. Danielson was whipped into the corner by his arm, before Danielson was put into an armbar. MJF would pull Danielson back down the mat after Danielson broke free, before taunting in the corner.

Both Men Show Their In-Ring Skills

Danielson was pulled to the floor and thrown into the barricade, and MJF teased throwing Dnaielson into the barricade – instead pushing him into the ring. MJF would take a dropkick through the ropes, only to block a dive and send Danielson into the barricade again. Elevated DDT would land, getting MJF a two count. Keylock would be applied, with Danielson able to work his way free.

MJF would just choke Danielson, before punching Danielson in the face after driving him into the corner. Commentary would ponder if MJF hates Danielson or himself more, as we passed the 15 minute mark. Danielson would fight out of the corner with some headbutts, before switching to the powerbomb to spike MJF onto the mat.

MJF would suffer some kicks in the corner, before the rushing dropkicks. Danielson hit the Super Rana, with MJF able to kick out at two. MJF would jump on the arm of Danielson in the corner, before hitting a powerbomb onto the knee for another near fall. LeBell Lock would be blocked, before MJF hit the Slingshot over the ropes.

Danielsons tried to skin the cat, but MJF hit the superkick instead to send Danielson to the floor. MJF would follow up with the diving moonsault, with Danielson avoiding before nailing the dive. Danielson would go for the dive in the ring, with MJF blocking into the Salt of the Earth, with Danielson slipping free. MJF nailed a Pumphandle Driver, spiking Danielson for a nearfall.

Match Increases To 2-2 As Both Men Record Falls

MJF would be rolled up with a Small Package, before Danielson tried to use a Side Headlock to record a pinfall. They’d proceed to roll around the ring with a Small Package, before a Sunset Flip saw them roll back and forth into pinfalls, before MJF got a backslide for a near fall. Tombstone Piledriver was avoided, but Danielson was rocked with a lariat before coming back with one of his own.

Running Knee Smash would land – and Bryan Danielson got the first fall of the match with 34:24 left in the match. MJF would hit a low blow followed by a small package, scoring his first fall with a second right behind. The DQ would give Danielson a fall, with MJF getting two from pinfalls – putting this match at 2-2, putting us back to even ground.

MJF tried for the Heatseeker, with Danielson blocking and hitting the Shotgun dropkick. Danielson would follow MJF to the floor and slam his fast off a steel chair. MJF would be sat for the Yes Kicks, before another running knee strike on the floor. Danielson would apply the Figure Four Leg Lock in the middle of the ring, with MJF yelling as he hit some slaps – Danielson responding with a smile before hitting some slaps in return – with MJF rolling to the ropes.

MJF would be set up for the Gotch Style Piledriver on the apron, with Danielson unable to land it. They’d trade strikes on the apron, before Danielson looked for an Avalanche Backdrop onto the floor – with MJF shoving Danielson down. Danielson would be set up on the timekeepers table, and MJF came off the top rope with a diving elbow drop.

MJF Takes The Lead For First Time

Danielson would narrowly avoid losing a fall to a countout, getting back in the ring by nine. MJF would pull Danielson back to the floor, and hit the Tombstone Piledriver onto what is left of the table, injuring his own knee in the process. Heatseeker would follow in the ring, and MJF now leads the match for the first time with a 3-2 score.

MJF would hit some punches to the head of Danielson, opening a wound on the forehead more and more with each punch with 18 minutes left on the clock. Danielson would be mocked, as MJF called out to Danielson’s daughters, which risks firing Danielson up. MJF would hit some mocking kicks to a tired Danielson, before sneezing onto him.

Danielson was asked to give his best shot and he’d smack MJF, before taking a headbutt. MJF was sent to the floor, and Danielson jumped off the apron with a knee strike. Danielson would follow this with a top rope knee strike, before setting up a Spider Superplex out of the corner. Diving headbutt would follow, and MJF was now donning the crimson mask.

MJF would be run down with the Running Knee Strike before the Modified Regal Stretch would put us at a 3-3 tie. Danielson tried to go in for a second submission, but ended up in the Salt Of The Earth. MJF would be countered, and the LeBell Lock would be applied. MJF would twist into a pinfall before the Salt of The Earth again – but Danielson was able to fight to the ropes.

MJF Refuses To Tap To Bryan Danielson, Tony Khan Doesn’t Accept A Draw In This Main Event

With 8 minutes left, this match was at 3-3, and MJF would trade headbutts with Danielson. Danielson would catch MJF on the jaw with an elbow smash, and with just five minutes left – both men found their final wind. MJF would be hit with a running forearm shot, before Danielson was sent to the apron and hit with the Heatseeker – only getting a near fall this time. MJF wasted time with a water break, prompting a H20 chant from the crowd.

With three minutes left, Danielson hit some Hammer & Anvil elbows, only to take an Avalanche Tombstone Piledriver. Danielson might be knocked out, but MJF seriously hurt his knee at the same time. MJF would crawl into the pinfall, but Danielson was waiting to catch a single leg crab on MJF. With sixty seconds on the clock, MJF was pulling for the ropes – but was put in the middle of the ring.

MJF bite his fist instead of tap out – and Danielson would watch the clock run out, with MJF tapping out just after the match. It goes to a draw, and MJF retains as a result. The crowd would chant bullshit, as Tony Schiavone would get a message and hit the ring. MJF was being given oxygen, and it was revealed Tony Khan does NOT want it to end like this – and it’s SUDDEN DEATH RULES!

MJF Cheats To Survive In Sudden Death

Danielson was standing with a smile on his face, as MJF shoved the referee. The referee shoved back, with MJF getting rolled up for two. MJF would hit a low blow out of the view of the referee, with a two count off the following roll up. The AEW World Championship was brought into ring, but if he hits Danielson – he loses.

Instead, MJF looked to use the Dynamite Diamond Ring – but Danielson avoided, hitting the running knee smash for a near fall. Single Leg Crab was applied, and the referee took the ring away from MJF when he noticed it on the hand. MJF would get the ropes but tapped out, trying buy some time – with Danielson thinking he won.

MJF grabbed the oxygen tank, and smashed Danielson in the face – sliding it under the ring and applying the LeBell Lock – but Danielson would not quit. The hold was held onto however, and Danielson had no choice but to tap out. MJF bent the rules, but remains champion.
