During the G1 Climax, just one man stood between Jay White and a clean sweep – and that was former BULLET CLUB member Tama Tonga. After being kicked out of the faction by White earlier in the year, this was a good measure of revenge – but Tama Tonga wants more. He pinned the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion – and now has a chance to claim that belt tonight in the main event of Declaration Of Power. This is the first world title shot for Tama, and he will be keen on making the most of it. Whoever wins this match, will main event Wrestle Kingdom 17 against Kazuchika Okada.
Jay White Wastes No Time Starting His Mindgames
White would leave the ring as the bell rang, already starting his mind games. Tama would keep a cool head, and locked up with White to drive him into the corner. White would demand a clean break, before driving Tama into the corner – and slapping him across the chest. Tama would lose some cool, before hitting the right hand to the face.
White would be beaten into the corner, before two quick arm drags and a sky high back drop. Tama would be dumped over the top rope with an exploder suplex, a hard landing as he bounced off the apron and to the floor. White would get on Tama with a knee to the side of the face, before rolling him back into the ring and hammering an elbow into the throat.
Tama would be taken into a tight chinlock, but White would let him free to have a chance to gloat and hit a “Too Sweet Chop”. White would be dropped with some forearm smashes, before a scoop slam. The stinger splash would land in the corner, before White was run down with a lariat. White would rush into a powerslam, but wouldn’t stay down past a two count.
Tama would be dropped with the Bladebuster, but was able to kick out. White would try and set up the Urange, but Tama would block into the Tongan Twist. He’d be unable to follow up with a pinfall, but would catch White on the apron with a Tongan Twist to the floor. TKO would be set up in the ring, but White would hit the elbow strikes – and took the Death Valley Bomb before the Supreme Flow was blocked.
Tama Tonga Stays In The Fight
On the floor, Tama would be hit with a Gordbuster onto the apron, and would barely answer the twenty count from the referee. Back in the ring, the Uranage would spike Tama, getting a two count. White would move into the Boston Crab, the finisher given to the Young Lions – making it disgraceful to tap out, especially in a World Heavyweight Championship match.
White would move into the Liontamer instead, putting extra pressure on the midsection – but Tama lunged forward to get the bottom rope. Sleeper Hold would be applied, but White couldn’t get the Sleeper Suplex. Tama would find his feet, and jumped into Valino DDT. Supreme Flow was attempted again, but this time it landed for a near fall.
Gun Stun was signalled, but White would be able to counter. A low blow and roll up with his feet on the ropes would follow, but Red Shoes Uno would kick the legs away. Red Shoes would be taken out by Tama being driven into him in the corner, before a low blow. Gedo grabbed a steel chair, and Jado couldn’t stop him from passing it to White.
Tama would hit a low blow of his own before White could use the chair. He wouldn’t use the chair himself, having a crisis of morals. White almost got the Blade Runner, with Tama blocking into a pinfall – getting a visual pinfall, with Red Shoes putting the chair out of the ring during. Tama walked into the Complete Shot, before both men would trade chops in the middle of the ring.
Breathe With The Switchblade
As we passed the twenty five minute mark, both men would be struggling to breathe as heavy strikes landed. White caught Tama with a Complete Shot, before the Deadlift German Suplex. Sleeper Suplex would follow, White managing to string together the signature offense.
Blade Runner was blocked, but so was the GunStun. White would look for Blade Runner once again, but was taken into Bloody Sunday for a near fall. Not just the leader of Bullet Club can pull from it’s founder – and Tama was there alongside Prince Devitt. Tiger Driver ‘97 would be set, but it wouldn’t take off. Gun Stun would be blocked into a Crucifix with White nailing some stiff elbow smashes.
Regal Plex would get the near fall, Tama still finding the energy to kick out before taking White’s variant of Bloody Sunday. White would urge Tama to his feet, wanting to end this with Gun Stun. Instead, Tama hit it himself – and would get a 2.9 count, as close as a fall has come without hitting three all night. The crowd broke the COVID imposed silence for this, much like when JONAH hit the Black Forest Bomb.
Tama would look for the Tiger Driver, but would be hit with a backdrop. White would take a Dragon Suplex, but Gun Stun was blocked and Blade Runner landed – ending this match. Jay White retains the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, and will face Kazuchika Okada on January 4th in his next title defense.
